Aloe Vera, The Forgotten Plant
What’s in a name? If the name is Aloe Cure, it represents one of the great healing plants of all time. Anything that occurs in nature and is so effective must rank highly among medicinal measures. The beauty of natural remedies becomes readily apparent when we take into account the fact that most prescribed medicine comes with unavoidable side-effects.The untold benefits that accompany most natural cures comes in the form of antioxidants and minerals that have yet to be discovered.
We do not hear much about aloe these days with all the latest hullabaloo surrounding green tea, acai and resveratrol. That is quite understandable since most of us want what’s “hot” right now. TheĀ “big three” are certainly miracles of nature and it is not our intention to speak ill of them. They have been around for thousands of years, like most of nature’s wonders.
The publicity the current crop of favorites is now receiving is long overdue. Not exactly a newcomer, pure aloe has been used to treat burns, cuts and bruises and the juice has long been touted as a remedy for digestive problems.
Used by Native Americans of the Southwest for centuries and, most recently, by herbalists and botanical healers in the U.S., it has the most amazing restorative powers and is one of nature’s cure-alls. It has the power to soothe the digestive tract, reduce or eliminate inflammation, facilitate waste removal, repair, heal and act as a corrective. For those who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome aloe vera juice has been recommended for years.
Pharmaceutical companies have garnered too much power in the last several decades and I do not refer to political influence. We rely on their imprimatur before we take steps to deal with medical problems. It is not scientific research that is the enemy, but we must take responsibility for our own health. Remember that many of the so-called discoveries have been around for thousands of years, aloe being just one of them.
It is our contention that all of the cures for disease exist, or have existed in nature. It is a great tragedy whenever a species becomes extinct owing to commercial progress or commercial avarice. This is why we must guard against the loss of the rainforests and other habitats that are not only home to wildlife but are in fact giant stores of naturally occuring medicines.
The Aloe Vera plant, with its gentle, healing properties, may actually alter your physiology and correct chronic gastrointestinal problems that have become somatized over the years. This has been touted and there have been proven results. It may not work like a pill – we all want instant gratification and freedom from discomfort – but it works well and, in the long run, the benefits will be many; the side effects, few.
